SC 2018 Verdict

The judgement

On 6 September 2018, the Supreme Court delivered its judgement in Navtej Johar & Ors. v UoI, where, in four separate but concurring judgements, the 5-member bench read down Section 377. This historic judgement not only decriminalised consensual sex between adults, but also went much further in affirming the dignity as well as rights of all LGBT people in the country.
