Homophobic Christian Rally: Chennai, Jan 5 2014

Courtesy TD Sivakumar of Nirangal, we bring you photos of the rally by Christians against Homosexuality that was held at Marina Beach in Chennai on Sunday (Jan 5, 2014) morning. From the materials below, it is clear that the group lacks even basic understanding of  (i) the nature of homosexual orientation, (ii) the difference between adult consensual acts in private and issues such child molestation involving individuals who cannot give consent and (iii) the existence of same-sex desire and its expression in India’s diverse cultures through the ages.

In light of such abysmal ignorance on the part of our homophobic opponents, we call upon our allies – Christian and non-Christian, straight and queer –  to deal with them with compassion. For they act, as described in Ephesians 4:18 “…having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart”.

A press meet organized by another collective, Christians against Homophobia, seeks to dispel myths around homosexuality and share that the true spirit of Christianity is to embrace difference. We also refer readers to Orinam’s resources on Religion and Faith.

  3. The christians are confused with Homosexuality and child abuse. The reason I know few fathers (Padri) who abuse (sodomise) children in their so called orphanage. No wonder they feel that all gay men are like their clergymen.
