Elisabeth came across the 377letters project on Buzzfeed a month ago. In her words:

“I wanted to tell you how touched I was by the letters written to the Supreme court, and how shocked at the legal status toward homosexuality in India.

“I wanted to translate some of the words used in their letters, into a way to help others listen and become more aware of how many people are being affected all over the world by discrimination toward the LGBT community. So I was moved to write a song using some of the words written to the court, and thought I should let you know that I want to raise awareness for this issue, even from so far away. This site and everything it stands for is incredible, and I really hope we can look forward to a more open-minded future for the LGBT community.”

What would you do
If I said you,
Couldn’t be who you choose?
Suddenly you’ve got a lot to lose

And if I fell in love
Would you be the one to tell me
How it’s going to be?
I thought we were free

I will tap on my piano keys
While you run from the western disease
Is this what our world needs?

There’s no such thing as different tongues,
Just the lungs that voice those words
And don’t you know they hurt?

This fractured house will fall just like our respect
They call them the minorities so we can’t show their neglect
And isn’t it sad that this is what we’ve grown to expect?
Why should being ourselves be something we regret?

You can pass your clause
But our bodies don’t know laws
They don’t want any more

You’ve written away our privacy
Now we must love in secrecy

I will tap on my piano keys
While you run from the western disease
Is this what our world needs?

There’s no such thing as different tongues,
Just the lungs that voice those words
And don’t you know they hurt

This fractured house will fall just like our respect
They call them the minorities so we can’t show their neglect
And isn’t it sad that this is what we’ve grown to expect?
Why should being ourselves be something we regret?

Why do you want me to marry a girl
And spoil her life as well?
Tell me I’m a criminal
And lock me up in a cell

What should I do
If I am told by you
I cannot be who I choose?
I’ll tell you I am human too
